Yesterday, I was paying bills while talking to a friend. She asked me why I didn't use automatic bill pay through my bank to pay my bills. I had never really thought about it. I knew that such a thing existed but had never really investigated how it worked.
She explained to me how it worked but the thing that convinced me to try it was that in the time that it took me to FIND stamps, she had paid 4 bills. Are you kidding me? What have I been missing out on all this time?
Let me back up and explain to you my feelings on paying bills. I HATE PAYING BILLS! Not necessarily because it means money is leaving my bank account but more because it is such a pain to find the checkbook, write checks, write my return address on the bills, find my stamps, and then get it to the post office. Due to this pain, I have been known to pay the bills that have no late payment consequences a few days late. This drives Joseph crazy.
So, I got on and set up all my payees. I was bummed that I still have to pay a couple bills because it is close enough to the due date that I need to pay them online this month. However, I did schedule like 5 bills to pay. I love how some aren't due until the end of the month, but I scheduled them and now I don't have to think about them again until next month. Half of the pain of bills is making sure you get them paid and in the mail on time. Next month, I will be 100% converted to the automatic bill pay with my bank.
Thanks, Rachel!!! And to those of you who may be skeptical about bill pay or just have never really thought about it, TRY IT!

YAHOO!! I am SOOOOO glad you tried it and loved it! It really is SO much easier! I have a feeling Joseph is going to be really happy with you!
We've had bill pay for several months, and LOVE it! I love being able to tell it to do this amount every month for those bills that never change and just not worrying about them at all. Yeah, you, for learning of this life-simplifyer!
I have yet to convert to the ease and convenience of automatic bill pay. We are thinking about doing it for our power bill, but were too late last month to get it all worked out. Maybe next month!
I am a dedicated fan of automatic bill pay. It's not that I mind so much paying the bills (because it is definitely me, not Steve, who takes care of them) it's that I set them aside for payment and then either lose them or forget that they are there! I can only think of one monthly payment that we have that isn't automatic in some fashion. That one is programmed into my bill pay, I just have to enter the amount when the bill comes and it will get paid on time. I LOVE automatic bill pay!
Hello woman, welcome to the 21st century! Well, just our secret, but I still accidentally pay bills late, even with bill pay! Whoops! Don't tell Con!
K, so I haven't checked your blog for a while...I had a lot of catching up to do! Sorry about Joseph's arm, I'm sure you know that I can sympathize! I agree that we need to get together and let the girls play, they probably don't even remember each other now! Call me and we'll plan something.
I love automatic bill pay too. It drives me crazy though that the only bill I still have to pay manually is my internet bill... you'd think they'd be the first to add the new technology.
This is a little slow, but I'm just curious...do you have it all set up through your bank's website? I pay our bills online but I have to go to each company's website to pay each one. I really need to figure out the automatic bill pay thing. I love these things that make our lives so much easier.
I use to pay at each individual company's website but now I pay it all through my bank! I love it. It is the greatest thing ever!
